LSF Signs Memorandum of Understanding with Universitas Indonesia
Jakarta, December 16, 2025. The Film Censorship Institution of the Republic of Indonesia (Lembaga Sensor Film Republik Indonesia / LSF RI) has formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Universitas Indonesia (UI), marking a significant step toward strengthening collaboration between the two institutions.
The agreement was signed by LSF Chairman Naswardi and UI Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Hamdi Moeloek, M.Si, representing UI Rector Prof. Dr. Ir. Heri Hermansyah, S.T., M.Eng., IPU, on Tuesday (16/12/2025).
The partnership is expected to deepen strategic cooperation, particularly in the areas of academic studies, research, and public education related to film, media literacy, and community protection. “Our research shows that out of 80 million cinema-goers, only 46 percent consistently adhere to age classification as part of responsible viewing culture,” Naswardi noted in his opening remarks.
Naswardi emphasized the importance of working closely with universities as part of Indonesia’s Tridharma Perguruan Tinggi education, research, and community service. Through film literacy initiatives and the promotion of age based classification under the National Movement for a Self Censorship Culture (GNBSM), LSF has already partnered with 34 public and private universities across the country.
The collaboration was warmly welcomed by Prof. Hamdi, who highlighted Universitas Indonesia’s long-standing engagement in social engineering and behavioral intervention research. He cited Saemaul Undong, a community-based rural development movement launched in South Korea in the 1970s under President Park Chung-hee, as an example of how collective values diligence, self-reliance, and cooperation can drive meaningful social change. LSF should conduct research into what audiences truly want, as well as studies on the social impact of content such as films that depict violence,” Hamdi said. “By grounding its work in research, LSF can position itself in a more refined and forward-looking way.”
Through this partnership, LSF and Universitas Indonesia aim to bridge policy, research, and public engagement, laying the groundwork for a more informed, responsible, and culturally aware film-viewing society in Indonesia. (Nuz)
