LSF Explains Why Age Classification Must Be Followed

Bandung, July 9, 2026 — Indonesia is currently experiencing strong growth in film production. In 2024, a total of 285 Indonesian films were released, exceeding the 255 imported films screened in Indonesian cinemas. In 2025, there were 270 Indonesian films, compared with 275 imported films.

Against this backdrop, the role of the Film Censorship Board of Indonesia (LSF RI) in protecting the public from the potential negative impacts of films and film advertisements is considered increasingly important.

“LSF consistently conducts public outreach on audience age classification, which serves as a guide for moviegoers in selecting films that are appropriate for them, ensuring a safe and quality viewing experience,” said LSF Commission III Chair Kuat Prihatin while opening the LSF Goes to Campus program at Universitas Muhammadiyah Bandung in Bandung, West Java, on Thursday (July 9, 2026). The event was attended by approximately 300 participants.

In his presentation, Head of the LSF Monitoring Subcommission Erlan Basri emphasized that the public should understand film age classifications and use them as an important consideration when choosing what to watch.

“By following the age classifications established by LSF, audiences can choose films that are appropriate for their age and benefit their level of maturity,” he explained.

Meanwhile, Head of the LSF Research and Development Subcommission Zaqia Ramallah stated that LSF consistently upholds the principle of dialogue in carrying out its censorship function by engaging all stakeholders in the film industry.

“This approach helps strengthen Indonesia’s film industry and enhances its ability to compete with foreign films,” she said. (*/Nuz)
