Padang, June 25, 2026 — The Film Censorship Board of Indonesia (LSF RI) and Universitas Islam Negeri Imam Bonjol Padang signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Padang, West Sumatra, on Thursday (June 25, 2026). The agreement aims to establish mutually beneficial cooperation between LSF and the higher education institution.

The signing took place as part of LSF Goes to Campus, an outreach program under the National Movement for a Culture of Self-Censorship (GNBSM), attended by approximately 500 lecturers and students. In his remarks, LSF Chair Naswardi emphasized the importance of shifting the paradigm from passive oversight to self-censorship.

“In the digital era, LSF can no longer be the sole gatekeeper filtering every piece of content viewed on people’s devices. Responsibility has now shifted to the fingertips of each individual, especially the younger generation,” he said.

Head of the LSF Socialization Subcommission Titin Setiawati stated that the public should understand film age classifications and use them as a key consideration when choosing what to watch.

“By following the age classifications established by LSF, audiences can choose films that are appropriate for their age and benefit their level of maturity,” she explained.

Meanwhile, LSF Dialogue Subcommission member Widayat S Noeswa said that LSF consistently prioritizes dialogue in carrying out its censorship function to help strengthen Indonesia’s film industry.

“LSF always upholds the principle of dialogue with all stakeholders in the film industry so that the industry can grow stronger and compete with foreign films,” he said.

The event was also supported by the producers of the film Jangan Buang Ibu, which was scheduled for theatrical release on the same day. Screenwriter Saskia Chadwick attended the event and shared her experience, from the beginning of her career in the film industry to the production of the film. (Nuz)
