Jakarta, April 1, 2026 — Seventeen members of the Film Censorship Board of Indonesia (LSF RI) traveled by the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) from the LSF office on Sudirman Street to Grand Indonesia on MH Thamrin Street, Jakarta, on Wednesday (April 1, 2026).

The group then hosted “LSF Watches Indonesian Films 2026” at Starium CGV cinema, attended by 438 participants from universities across the Greater Jakarta area, community groups, and members of the public who registered through LSF’s Instagram account, @lsf_ri.

Participants were encouraged to use public transportation as part of an energy-saving initiative amid the global energy crisis resulting from the ongoing conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, which had entered its fifth week.

The event, officially opened by the Minister of Culture, Fadli Zon, was part of the 2026 National Film Day (HFN) commemorations, observed annually on March 30. National Film Day was established by Presidential Decree No. 25 of 1999, issued by Indonesia’s third President, B. J. Habibie. The date marks the beginning of the production of Darah dan Doa 76 years ago, a milestone widely recognized as the birth of Indonesia’s national film industry.

As part of the celebration, participants attended a special screening of Darah dan Doa, directed by Usmar Ismail, who is widely regarded as the Father of Indonesian Cinema.

“This is our tribute to a landmark achievement in the history of Indonesian cinema,” said LSF Chair Naswardi.

During the event, LSF presented a certificate of appreciation to the director’s family in recognition of Darah dan Doa as Indonesia’s first national film. LSF also officially issued a Film Censorship Approval Certificate (STLS) for the film, assigning it a 17+ audience classification.

Naswardi explained that the event also formed part of the National Movement for a Culture of Self-Censorship (GNBSM), an initiative to promote public awareness of film audience age classification.

“We view the celebration of National Film Day as an opportunity to continue improving the achievements and standing of Indonesia’s film industry at the regional, national, and global levels,” he said.

Before the screening, a discussion session featured acclaimed filmmaker Joko Anwar and Sonny Pudjisasono, Chair of the Usmar Ismail Film Center Foundation. The discussion reflected on the historical significance of Darah dan Doa while exploring the opportunities and challenges facing Indonesia’s film industry in both domestic and international markets.

The Film Censorship Board of Indonesia (LSF RI) is an independent and permanent state institution responsible for assessing the suitability of films and film advertisements before they are distributed and/or exhibited to the public. Film censorship is mandated under Article 57 of Law No. 33 of 2009 on Film, which requires every film and film advertisement intended for public distribution or exhibition to obtain a Film Censorship Approval Certificate (STLS) issued by LSF.
