LSF Launches New Mascot, Classification On-Screen Labels, and Public Service Announcements
Jakarta, 11 December 2025
The Film Censorship Institution of Indonesia (Lembaga Sensor Film Republik Indonesia ) has launched a new mascot, updated on screen age classification labels, and new public service announcements. The institution continues to use the Javan rhinoceros (Rhinoceros sondaicus) as its mascot. However, unlike the previous male character, the new mascot features a female rhinoceros.
Named Mama Culla, an acronym for Masyarakat Sensor Mandiri: Sadar dan Cerdas Untuk Memilah-Memilih Film sesuai Klasifikasi Usia (a self-regulated, aware, and informed society in selecting films according to age classification), the character is portrayed as a millennial mother (Generation Y). She represents a figure close to everyday life, particularly for young parents, and conveys the importance of choosing age appropriate viewing content.
Inspired by the protective nature of a Javan rhinoceros mother toward her calf, the new LSF mascot symbolizes the role of a caring, protective, and wise mother.
“This mascot also serves as a symbol of the National Movement for a Culture of Self Censorship. It reflects the values of protection for vulnerable groups, especially children, from viewing content that contains sensitive issues,” said the Chair of LSF, Naswardi, during the launch event at The Club Djakarta Theater, Jakarta, on Thursday (11 December 2025).
Starting 1 January 2026, cinema audiences across Indonesia will see newly redesigned on screen labels providing age classification information for four audience categories.
The updated labels involve four well-known local intellectual property (IP) characters: Funcican for All Ages (SU), Si Nopal for Teen (13+), Emak-Emak Matic for Adult (17+), and Si Juki for Adult (21+).
Naswardi added that LSF remains committed to improving viewing literacy quality by providing literacy content not only in cinemas. “This effort will also reach public spaces through public service announcements displayed in public transportation facilities, such as trains, as well as on OTT (over-the-top) media platforms, social media, and other public spaces,” he explained.
The Film Censorship Institution of Indonesia is a permanent and independent state institution responsible for assessing the suitability of films and film advertisements before distribution and/or public exhibition. Film censorship is mandated under Article 57 of Law No. 33 of 2009 on Film, which requires all films and film advertisements intended for distribution and exhibition to obtain a Film Censorship Certificate (STLS) from LSF.
