LSF Awards 2025: Highest Recognition for Advancement of Indonesia Cinema
Jakarta, August 13, 2025 – Film Censorship Institution of The Republic of Indonesia (Lembaga Sensor Film Republik Indonesia/LSF RI) is set to host the LSF Awards 2025. Now in its fifth year, the event carries the theme “Suar Ragam Layar untuk Indonesia”, symbolizing LSF's role as a guiding light for the nation’s diverse film landscape.
The theme reflects LSF commitment to guiding Indonesia’s multifaceted film ecosystem toward shared direction and equitable opportunities, while promoting age classification, self-censorship education, and public awareness of quality viewing for all audiences. Through proper and unified guidance, LSF aims to make a positive contribution to the nation.
In line with this mission, the 18 award categories for the LSF Awards 2025 have been designed to align with the board’s key initiative — the National Movement for a Self-Censorship Culture (Gerakan Nasional Budaya Sensor Mandiri/GNBSM), launched in 2021. The awards range from Best All-Ages Self-Censored Feature Film to Best Self-Censored Film Poster. Four categories recognize achievements in television, including Best Self-Censored Television Program and Television Concerned About Education.
“Since 90 percent of censored materials come from broadcast media, it’s important that we recognize their role,” explained Gustav Aulia, Chairperson of the LSF Awards 2025 Committee.
The initiative to support LSF work processes is included in judging criteria— for instance, films that did not undergo re-censorship or age re-classification, as well as individuals or institutions that inspire the public to select content according to age ratings and apply such practices consistently, have been noticed.
The awards serve as a platform to honor film and broadcasting professionals who have contributed to producing qualified, healthy, and dignified cinematic works. LSF Chairperson Naswardi noted that 2024 was the best year in the history of Indonesian cinema, with domestic film production surpassing imported titles for the first time. “This achievement deserves high recognition, which we present through the LSF Awards 2025,” he said.
Eligible entries include a total of 58,415 films and film advertisements reviewed between August 2023 and December 2024. Judging will be conducted by 17 LSF members and 20 censorship officers from diverse backgrounds, divided into six panels.
According to Chair of the Jury, Hadi Artomo, evaluation covers both quantitative and qualitative aspects, as stipulated in Ministry of Education and Culture Regulation No. 14/2009 on Censorship Guidelines and Criteria. The judging process considers primary and supporting references in films, as well as artistic quality, educational value, and cultural contribution.
“We’ve already selected the top 10 nominees, which will be narrowed to three finalists before determining the winners in each category,” Hadi revealed.
This year also sees a redesign of the award trophy. Moving away from the traditional celluloid reel design, the LSF Awards 2025 trophy now embodies a strong cultural spirit, featuring a flame or beacon motif adorned with Indonesian carving and batik patterns.
Under Law No. 33/2009 on Cinema, LSF reports directly to the President through the minister in charge of cultural affairs. This year’s ceremony will be the first since the Ministry of Culture is institutionally separated from the former Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemendikbudristek)
The LSF Awards 2025 ceremony will take place on September 7, 2025, at 7:00 PM WIB, broadcast live on Indosiar. The event is expected to host 420 guests, including artists, government officials, national film industry stakeholders, broadcasting corporations, and other relevant parties.
LSF is a permanent, independent state body responsible for assessing the eligibility of films and film advertisements prior to public distribution or screening. Censorship is mandated by Article 57 of Law No. 33/2009, which requires all films and film advertisements to obtain a Film Censorship Certificate (Surat Tanda Lulus Sensor/STLS) before release.
As part of its mission to protect the public from the negative impacts of inappropriate content, LSF also conducts censorship literacy programs to encourage filmmakers and distributors to select and produce films in line with national regulations.
