EMPAT MUSIM PERTIWI (FOUR SEASONS IN JAVA)
After 20 years away, Pertiwi (Putri Marino) returns to her hometown. Her return to the village is met with rejection not only from the local community, but also from her own family. The lives of several villagers including Bisma (Arya Saloka), Mak Ira (Christine Hakim), and Niken (Hana Malasan) are directly or indirectly changed by Pertiwi’s return. Having recently been released from prison, Pertiwi must confront the trauma of her past through the “four seasons” of her life as she seeks to heal and rebuild herself.
Empat Musim Pertiwi (Four Seasons in Java) marks the third collaboration between director Kamila Andini and producer Ifa Isfansyah, her husband, through their production company Forka Films. Kamila is one of Indonesia’s influential female filmmakers, known for works that explore social issues from women’s perspectives, including Before, Now & Then (2022) and Yuni (2021). Addressing issues of sexual abuse, trauma, and social inequality, Empat Musim Pertiwi has been classified by the Indonesian Film Censorship Institution (LSF) for audiences aged 17 and above. Be discerning in selecting content suitable for your age. (mil)
