How LSF is Responding to Virtual Concerts in Cinemas

With virtual events and concerts increasingly making their way onto the big screen, the Indonesian Film Censorship Institution of The Republic of Indonesia (LSF RI) convened a special Film Guidelines Coordination Meeting in Jakarta on Monday (September 15) to address the trend.

Led by LSF Vice Chair Noorca M. Massardi and attended by 33 censorship officers, the session focused on developing and standardizing Film Guidelines (Panduan Film/PF) specifically tailored to virtual concerts and similar content now regularly screened in theaters.

This initiative comes in response to the rapid transformation of the entertainment world. What was once a live-only experience is now available in Virtual Reality (VR), often featuring AI-generated performers and content that doesn’t follow traditional film formats.

Yet developing official guidelines for this kind of content is no easy feat.
Milla Setiawati, one of LSF censorship officers and coordinator of the guideline drafting team, explained that virtual concert submissions often lack essential information including basic film identity, credits, and production details.

“We’ve come across concerts featuring AI-based characters with no conventional film structure at all,” she said.
These challenges, Milla added, call for innovative solutions and flexibility in how guidelines are developed and applied.

The discussion also extended to technical procedures particularly the consistent use of PF templates.

“If some data is missing, just use a dash. The key is to keep the template neat, complete, and easy to understand,” Noorca instructed.

Beyond internal coordination, LSF is also planning outreach efforts to strengthen media literacy — including promoting film guidelines in schools, universities, and local communities.

The aim is to help younger generations not only understand film classification but also develop a critical eye when navigating today’s overwhelming digital content landscape. The long-term goal: making self-censorship a life skill.
