Valentina Allegra de Fontaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), director of the United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and head of O.X.E., one of the world’s largest holding companies, is under investigation by the U.S. Congress over allegations that she conducted cruel experiments to create superhumans. Before the next congressional hearing, Valentina attempts to destroy all evidence related to the experiments. This includes eliminating a group of antiheroes who once worked for her: Yelena (Florence Pugh), John Walker (Wyatt Russell), Ava Starr (Hannah John-Kamen), and Antonia Dreykov (Olga Kurylenko).

Thunderbolts is the second Marvel Studios film released in 2025, following Captain America: Brave New World (Julius Onah, 2025) and preceding The Fantastic Four: First Steps (Matt Shakman, 2025). The film also marks Jake Schreier’s return as a feature-film director following Paper Towns (2015).
