Mike Sardina (Hugh Jackman), a Vietnam War veteran, struggles with post-traumatic stress disorder while battling alcoholism. His wife, Claire Sardina (Kate Hudson), is a gifted hairstylist with a remarkable singing voice. United by their love for music, they decide to marry and form a tribute band honoring Neil Diamond called Lightning & Thunder. Their journey is marked by emotional and personal challenges that test both their relationship and artistic ambitions. 

The story has become part of American folklore, celebrated over the years for its heartfelt portrayal of perseverance and love. Inspired by Greg Kohs’ documentary Lightning & Thunder (2008), the film reflects director Craig Brewer’s signature style of blending drama with music, as seen in Hustle & Flow (2005) and Dolemite Is My Name (2019).
