Solata
Angkasa (Rendy Kjaernett) is hit by a series of personal crises in a short span of time: his mother dies after a long illness, he loses his job, he breaks up with his girlfriend Lembayung (Rachel Natasya), and has a serious falling out with his best friend, Bumi (Iskandar Andi Patau). Overwhelmed and desperate to escape his painful reality, Angkasa decides to become a volunteer teacher in a remote area. He is assigned to Ollon Hamlet in Toraja, South Sulawesi, as part of the “Distance Classroom” program. There, he befriends Abun (Fhail Firmansyah) and meets six enthusiastic fourth grade students who continue to pursue education despite severe limitations. Through this experience, Angkasa gradually finds renewed purpose and inspiration to rebuild his own life.
According to director Ichwan Persada, the word solata means “one of us” in the local Toraja language. The film deliberately highlights challenges in childhood education in remote regions, particularly in South Sulawesi, which, based on data from Indonesia’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, (2020/2021) ranks fifth among provinces with the highest number of school dropouts. Solata, which emphasizes education and the struggle for a better life, has been rated for all audiences by the Indonesian Film Censorship Institution (LSF). (sof)
