Nathan Caine (Jack Quaid) has an extremely rare medical condition: he cannot and has never been able to feel physical pain. As a result, Caine was frequently bullied during his childhood and was nicknamed “Novocaine,” after the anesthetic used to temporarily numb pain. As an adult working at a bank, Caine falls in love with his coworker, Shari (Amber Midthunder). His life takes a dangerous turn when the bank is robbed and Shari is taken hostage. Using his inability to feel pain to his advantage, Caine sets out to pursue the robbers and rescue her.

The condition depicted in Novocaine is based on a real and extremely rare genetic disorder known as CIP (Congenital Insensitivity to Pain), which is estimated to occur in only one out of every 125 million births. In addition to Novocaine, several other films have featured protagonists who cannot feel pain, including Unbreakable (M. Night Shyamalan, 2000), the South Korean film Pained (Kwak Kyung-taek, 2011), and the Bollywood film Mard Ko Dard Nahi Hota (Vasan Bala, 2018). Due to its intense violent content, the Indonesian Film Censorship Institution (LSF) has classified Novocaine for audiences aged 17 and above. Be discerning in selecting content suitable for your age. (sof)
