No Other Choice
Man Soo (Lee Byung-hun), the trusted head of a labor union tasked with preventing mass layoffs, must face a bitter reality: he and all employees are to be dismissed, as the company no longer needs human workers. Deeply disappointed, Man Soo and his senior colleague Goo Beom-mo (Lee Sung-min) struggle to accept their fate. Despite the emotional support from his wife, Mi-ri (Son Ye-jin), Man Soo sinks into despair. Meanwhile, three of the six senior employees, facing the same fate, compete desperately to keep their jobs at the paper factory that has sustained them for 25 years. In the end, they realize there is no other choice but to eliminate their rivals.
No Other Choice is adapted from the horror-thriller novel The Ax by Donald E. Westlake. Before director Park Chan-wook’s adaptation, the novel had inspired The Axe (Costa-Gavras – 2005). Blending dark comedy with intense violence, the film has been classified by the Indonesian Film Censorship Institution (LSF) for audiences aged 17 and above.
