MUMU: Silent Love
MuMu (Li Luoan), a cheerful seven-year-old girl, grows up in a loving deaf community with her father, Xiao Ma (Zhang Yixing). Their peaceful life is disrupted when her mother, Xiao Jing (Huang Yao), who has been absent for years, suddenly returns and takes MuMu into the hearing world. As MuMu struggles to adapt and build new connections, she comes to realize that love and communication do not always require words.
Adapted from a short film of the same title featured on the Chinese variety show Kai Pai Ba (Action!), MuMu: Silent Love marks an important milestone in Chinese feature cinema for its specific focus on the lives of families with hearing disabilities. Zhang Yixing underwent intensive sign language training to prepare for his role as Xiao Ma. His dedication is evident in various emotional scenes, including one in which he uses sign language in court to defend his right to custody of his daughter. The Indonesian Film Censorship Institution (LSF) has classified MuMu: Silent Love for audiences of all ages (SU). (arr)
