Tian Zhao (Noé Liu Martane), a young boy obsessed with video games, struggles in school and ranks at the bottom of his class. His father, Fu Zhao (Ye Liu), disappointed with Tian’s performance, forbids him from attending the e-sports camp he dreams of. As punishment, Tian is sent to spend the holidays with his grandmother Nai Nai (Sylvia Chang) and his sister Liya (Nina Liu Martane) in a remote mountain village.

There, Tian stumbles upon a wild panda in the surrounding forest. He names the panda Moon, and an unexpected bond begins to form between them. Through this newfound friendship and his time in nature, Tian slowly rediscovers joy, purpose, and the courage to face life beyond screens.

Directed by Gilles de Maistre renowned for Mia and the White Lion (2018), The Wolf and the Lion (2021), and Autumn and the Black Jaguar (2024) Moon the Panda continues his tradition of heartfelt stories about the connection between humans and animals. Filmed in the breathtaking mountains of Sichuan, China, home to the world’s largest panda sanctuary, the movie is notable for its use of real pandas with no CGI, a first in two decades.
