Made in Bali
Made (Rayn Wijaya), the son of a renowned Balinese puppeteer, learns the art of puppetry to carry on his family’s profession, which has been passed down through generations. Since childhood, Made has been close friends with Ni Luh (Vonny Felicia), who is of Japanese and Balinese descent. Ni Luh understands Made’s personality and habits very well, and vice versa. As they grow older, Made is accepted into Dewata University. Meanwhile, Ni Luh, who is unable to attend university, has no choice but to follow her parents’ plan to move to Japan. Their situation becomes even more complicated by a traditional arranged-marriage agreement between Made and Putu (Bulan Sutena), the daughter of a wayang craftsman. At the same time, Made begins to realize that Ni Luh sees him as more than just a friend.
Set in Penglipuran Village, Bali, Made in Bali also showcases the natural beauty of the island, including its beaches and rice fields, as well as performances of traditional Balinese arts and culture. Marking Johar Prayudhi’s feature-film directorial debut, the film explores teenage and family conflicts and has been classified by the Indonesian Film Censorship Institution (LSF) for audiences aged 13 and above.
