In the village of Latas, located on the outskirts of Jakarta, a unique tradition thrives the “possession festival,” a joyous celebration where villagers allow spirits to take over their bodies as a mark of pride and gratitude. However, this harmony is disrupted when a major corporation seeks to buy the village’s sacred spring, the wellspring of both life and spirit to build a luxury hotel.The conflict between profit and preservation, a young man named Bayu (Angga Yunanda) dreams of becoming one of the revered “possessors.” But his ambition is tested as he must choose between proving himself to his father (Indra Birowo), preserving his friendship, or defending his homeland from greed and exploitation.
Levitating (The Possessors) marks director Wregas Bhanuteja’s third feature film after Photocopier (2021) and Andragogy (2023). Produced by Rekata Studio in collaboration with Singapore’s Momo Film Co, the film features the big-screen debut of international singer Anggun C. Sasmi. It won the CJ ENM Award at the Asian Project Market (APM) 2024 during the Busan International Film Festival and received post-production support through the Spring 2025 Post-Production Grants by Purin Pictures in Thailand. The Indonesian Film Censorship Institution (LSF) has classified this film for audiences aged 13 and above (ynp).
