The Last Dance
Dominic Ngai (Dayo Wong), a former wedding planner, is burdened with debt after his business collapses due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He meets Ming (Paul Chun), his girlfriend’s uncle, who entrusts Dominic with continuing his funeral business. Uncle Ming has long operated the business in partnership with Uncle Kwok Man (Michael Hui), a traditional Taoist priest. However, Kwok Man doubts Dominic’s abilities. Together, they become involved in various funeral rituals and ultimately explore profound questions about life and death.
Directed by Anselm Chan, this drama set in a funeral home achieved box-office success. Since its theatrical release in Hong Kong on 9 November 2024, The Last Dance has earned US$9.18 million, equivalent to approximately Rp18.5 billion. Premiering at the Hawaii International Film Festival on 11 October 2024, the film explores Hong Kong’s funeral ritual traditions while conveying positive moral messages. The Indonesian Film Censorship Institution (LSF) has classified The Last Dance for audiences aged 13 and above. (tal)
