Hear Me: Our Summer
Yong-Joon (Hong Kyung), a recent graduate who is unemployed, falls in love with Yeo-Reum (Roh Yoon-Seo). Yeo-Reum always uses sign language to communicate with her younger sister, Ga-eul (Kim Min-Ju), a deaf competitive swimmer. Yong-Joon spends his time helping with his parents’ restaurant business, while Yeo-Reum works part-time and supports her sister as she trains for a Paralympic swimming qualification competition. The love story between Yong-Joon and Yeo-Reum, expressed through sign language, unfolds beautifully until an incident involving Ga-eul affects her athletic career. Yeo-Reum, Yong-Joon, and Ga-eul must each confront their own inner struggles and realize that true happiness does not require them to continually sacrifice themselves.
Hear Me: Our Summer is adapted from the acclaimed Taiwanese film Hear Me (Cheng Fen-fen, 2009), which is notable for featuring deaf characters who communicate with others through sign language. Combining entertainment and educational elements, the film has been classified by the Indonesian Film Censorship Institution (LSF) for audiences aged 13 and above. (nkn)
