Exit 8
Exit 8 takes audiences deep into a never-ending underground corridor filled with puzzles and illusions. The story follows a man known only as The Lost Man (Kazunari Ninomiya), trapped in Tokyo’s underground passageways with one guiding rule: if something seems unusual, turn back; if not, keep moving. Any lapse in vigilance resets him to the beginning. Surrounded by sterile white walls, repeating posters, and mysterious lockers, he encounters the Walking Man (Yamato Kochi), whose eerie presence blurs the line between reality and hallucination. Meanwhile, calls from his ex-girlfriend (Nana Komatsu) intensify his emotional struggle, revealing wounds he can no longer ignore.
Directed by Genki Kawamura and based on the hit video game by Kotake Create, the film transforms a minimalist gameplay concept into a visually striking psychological experience. Premiering at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival, Exit 8 received an eight-minute standing ovation, praised for its bold aesthetic and profound thematic reflections. Celebrated as one of the freshest J-horror works in recent years, it explores the anxieties of modern life—feeling trapped in routine, confronting moral dilemmas, and yearning for true freedom.
The Indonesian Film Censorship Institution (LSF) has rated this film suitable for audiences aged 13 and above. (poc)
