Digger Rockwell (Tom Cruise) owns an oil rig in Greenland that produces thousands of barrels of oil every day. He receives news of a methane gas leak at the facility. Ganesh (Riz Ahmed), a scientist who also serves as an assistant to U.S. President Compson (John Goodman), explains that the leak could cause fractures in the ice sheet surrounding the rig. If the fractures continue to expand, they could trigger an avalanche with potentially dangerous consequences for other countries. President Compson, who is suffering from cancer, entrusts Digger with full responsibility for managing the disaster in an effort to minimize its impact and the losses incurred by the United States.
