General Charles de Gaulle (Simon Abkarian) takes refuge in London, England, determined to defend the honor and freedom of France. Amid the turmoil following the signing of the armistice during World War II, de Gaulle seeks to unite various Resistance groups scattered across France, England, and Algeria, while convincing the Allies the United States and the United Kingdom of his role as a representative of France. Amid the pressures of war, conflicting interests, and political challenges, de Gaulle, together with resistance fighters, soldiers, and political figures, strives to safeguard France’s independence and its right to determine its own destiny and future.

De Gaulle: Liberté (original title: La Bataille de Gaulle: J’écris ton nom) is directed by Antonin Baudry. The second part of the La Bataille de Gaulle project, the film was written by Bérénice Vila and Antonin Baudry, based on historian Julian Jackson’s book De Gaulle: Une certaine idée de la France. Produced by Pathé together with its French production partners, the film depicts an important period in the history of Charles de Gaulle and France during World War II. Released in French cinemas on 26 June 2026, De Gaulle: Liberté has been classified by the Indonesian Film Censorship Institution (LSF) for audiences aged 13 and above. (aza)
