The Carpenter’s Son
Joseph the Carpenter (Nicolas Cage) travels constantly with his wife Mary (FKA Twigs) and their teenage son Yoshua, also known as Jesus (Noah Jupe), in an effort to escape threats against their faith. After finally reaching a place of relative safety, Yoshua encounters a mysterious young girl (Isla Johnston) who questions Joseph’s role as his true father. This encounter begins to awaken doubts and inner conflicts within the boy.
The film sparked controversy for its interpretation of Jesus’ adolescence, portraying him as temperamental and possessing supernatural powers that diverge from traditional biblical depictions. Inspired by apocryphal elements, The Carpenter’s Son became one of the most debated films about Jesus’ life since The Last Temptation of Christ (Martin Scorsese, 1988). The Indonesian Film Censorship Institution (LSF) has rated the film for audiences aged 17 and above. Be Discerning in Selecting Content Suitable for Your Age (sof)
