Layar (Nicholas Saputra), Rintik (Amanda Rawles), and Denok (Widi Mulia) are on a mission: to bring a musical film to life. For Layar, the creative journey begins in a deeply personal place—his great-grandmother’s house. There, tucked away in an old suitcase, he discovers a treasure trove of handwritten letters and diary entries. These intimate documents unravel a love story from generations past, offering inspiration and insight that fuel the group’s cinematic vision.

This is the heartbeat of Siapa Dia, a musical film by acclaimed Indonesian filmmaker Garin Nugroho. More than just a story of love and legacy, Siapa Dia is a melodic and visually rich exploration of Indonesia’s cinematic evolution—told through song, dance, and intergenerational memory.

Garin Nugroho, known for his poetic storytelling and daring narratives, serves as the director, screenwriter, and producer of the film. With a career spanning over three decades since his 1991 debut Cinta dalam Sepotong Roti (Love in a Slice of Bread), Garin has continued to push boundaries. His notable works include Samsara (2025), Memories of My Body(Kucumbu Tubuh Indahku, 2019), Setan Jawa (2016), and Tjokroaminoto: Guru Bangsa (2015). His film Memories of My Body earned him Best Director and Best Original Screenplay at the 2019 Indonesian Film Festival.

Siapa Dia is rated suitable for audiences aged 13 and above by the Indonesian Film Censorship Institution (LSF). With its harmonious blend of nostalgia, history, and musical flair, the film offers a heartfelt tribute to the enduring spirit of Indonesian cinema through the eyes of one family, and the voice of a nation.(cha)
